Special Days...

We stole Neal & Kathryn's idea! We have been doing special days with the kids for quite a few years now. Sometimes we are a bit better than others. It's a new year & we are starting it out right! Each of the kids get a 1 on 1 with Dad or Mom. We use their birth date to schedule the days. We try to keep them pretty low budget... though no special day is complete without dessert! Casey starts us out on the 2nd... most often wanting an early breakfast (5AM) at Denny's with Dad. They both thoroughly enjoy their OJ. Next is Victoria (7th)... she's been neglected. I took her to Tom's Ice Cream Bowl on Saturday. She was so excited. She saw a man eating onion rings. I asked if she wanted french fries. Unable to contain her excitement she exclaimed, "the round ones, the round ones!" as she made circles with her hands. I ordered them. She began to eat them... looking a little perplexed with the onion inside. She pulled them out, placed them on her plate then happily ate the hollow crispy shell. She asked if she could come back. I told her if she wanted to come again next month on her special day she could. With eyes that were about to jump out of her head she exclaimed, "I want to come here on ALL my special days!" The bright pink strawberry ice cream cone must have sealed the deal! Isabelle (9th) is next, she always has different things to do. This time it was Bowling with Dad and a homemade shake with Mom. Samantha is coming up on the 13th & has decided on a trip to Hobby Lobby to check out the charms (her dear friends at church have started exchanging charms... a fun thing to continue when we move!) then back home to play a little Wii with Mom & Dad. Rebekah's is the 14th she received a gift card to Toys R Us so she'll be browsing the aisles for a new toy then off to Cold Stone Creamery... we LOVE our ice cream! Porter (19th) is a lucky dog... he'll be in Utah & get to ski with Dad then grab a cup of hot cocoa. Mom will happily take him to Farr's Ice Cream for a sweet treat.
