July 25th...
Porter spilled the beans after church... on accident!  The girls tried to recover but added to the already spilled beans.  It was very cute.  The kids kept the surprise from Ryan for a good 2 weeks or more!  I booked a bed & breakfast outside Lawrence, KS.  It was a quite secluded place with nothing to do except talk & read.  It was a lovely couple days.  We enjoyed a picnic dinner in our room Sunday evening, massages Monday morning, dinner at a fabulous Greek restaurant followed by a scoop of butter pecan at Sylas & Maddy's Home Made Ice Cream.  I read The Count of Monte Cristo while Ryan did a bit of studying & a bit of dozing.  Tuesday morning we checked out after a yummy breakfast.  We made a couple stops then headed for home.  The kids were excited to welcome Ryan home on his birthday.  All in all it was a fabulous couple days.

July 27th...
Grandma comes for a visit!  It was SO stinking hot the few days grandma was here we stayed in most the time.  She baked and cooked the entire time with the kids.  They had a ball making cinnamon rolls, sticky bread, zucchini bread, pickles, potato salad, chicken salad & other delicious foods.  What memories made!

Porter the climber...

He loves trees!  If there is a way to get up one he'll be up there.  We really need to build a tree house sometime.  He was a little moody & wanted me to spend some time with him.  He asked if I would go out and climb trees.  I told him I would come out and watch HIM climb trees.  He swung on the ropes we hung together a while ago for a bit then moved on to some climbing.  We talked as he swung and climbed.  It was nice.

August 1... turning over a new leaf!  Not really, just trying to eat a little bit healthier.  The kids gave me such a hard time about the menu.

Some of the comments prior to trying it:  "Are you trying to starve us?"  "We are not eating spinach in moderation!"  "Dessert on Sunday only?!"  "YUCK!"  "I don't like this food!"  "WHAT is edemame?"

Some after trying it:  "I'm SO full."  "That tastes good."  "Yogurt is a good dessert."  "Hmm, I like this."
