Day 173

Today we hiked the Upper Winner Creek, it was HARD!! 7 miles of mostly uphill to finally set up camp!! We then hiked an additional 4.5 miles. My legs are toast! But it was GORGEOUS!! We  set up camp on a bluff with spectacular views. The adventure of the day was hanging our food pack. We didn’t plan on having to do that. Casey had bought a bear canister but when we parked this morning the sign read, “Be bear aware, remove all food from car.” So we stuffed as much of our food into the bear canister, emptied my suitcase and put the rest in there. We left hoping all would be well. That meant creating a food pack that would have to be hung. Unfortunately, we left our keys and money in the food pack... hopefully we hung it well and will be there in the morning. Other fun things, cooking and eating dinner on a “peninsula” over looking a river chasm, sliding along left over avalanche snow, sweating buckets and hilarious conversation.
